During this clinic, individuals are assigned to meet with advocates that will help individuals address their traffic matter. Services may include referral to the City Attorney’s HEART program, which helps alleviate traffic ticket debt for eligible individuals who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused, assistance with “Ability to Pay” petitions, which are requests to the traffic court to consider a person’s financial circumstances when ordering fines and fees, and advice on or assistance with reinstatement of suspended driver’s licenses.
Please note that reinstatement of suspended licenses is not always legally possible, depending on the reasons leading to suspension. Advocates will assess each case on an individual basis and provide assistance accordingly.
This workshop is virtual and appointment-based only. You may contact (800) 433-6251 or submit an online application to request assistance. Please note that this workshop covers Vehicle Code infractions that are filed with the traffic court. It does not cover misdemeanor or felony Vehicle Code offenses (please see information on our monthly expungement clinic if you need help addressing a misdemeanor or felony offense involving driving). Please note that our traffic ticket workshop has a waitlist, and it could take several months to receive an appointment. While you wait for your appointment, we recommend that you obtain a copy of your driving record by visiting the DMV in person or request your record online.
