Spend a summer at the forefront of change! NLSLA is offering law students a chance to make a lasting impact in the lives of low-income individuals, families and communities in Los Angeles County and beyond. NLSLA provides many unique opportunities for law students to develop and hone their legal and advocacy skills while working to expand access to health, housing, economic opportunity and justice for people living in poverty.

“I left this summer feeling empowered to serve and with a fire blazing in my heart,” said Olivia Hudnut, a 2016 summer intern. “I am incredibly grateful to each an every mentor who demonstrated to me what kind of an impact and legacy our generation can have on the lives of those who so desperately seek justice and are able to find avenues to it through Neighborhood Legal Services.”

Under the supervision of NLSLA attorneys, legal interns will have the opportunity to work on cases at different junctures, including: interviewing clients, participating in case reviews, obtaining evidence and arranging records, preparing clients for hearings and trials, writing briefs and other legal memoranda, representing individuals at administrative hearings, conducting community outreach and education, and assisting self-represented litigants in our various clinics. Law students who wish to gain courtroom experience and are able to become certified by the CA State Bar will have the opportunity to represent clients at court hearings.
